Preparing for U.S. News Scholarly Ranking. Back in April 2019, we addressed questions we were receiving from the law library community after the U.S. News announced that they were considering evaluating U.S. law school scholarly impact and would be using HeinOnline as the source for the citation data. ScholarRank is an overall ranking based on the calculation of five HeinOnline ScholarCheck metrics. The Z-score for each of the five metrics is taken and then averaged; the final average is entered into standard competition ranking to produce the overall ScholarRank for each author. h-index is also used as a modifier in overall scholar check rank to reduce ties. ScholarCheck Score = (total of all 5 scholarcheck metrics rankings/5) – (h-index/1000) (The totals for each of the five metrics are ranked using dense ranking.)
